History:
The Regiment was founded in 1621 and is the oldest Regiment of the old German army. The name” Leibgarde “ was given in 1806 when the Landgraviate of Hess Darmstadt was changed to the Grand Duchy of Hessen, the Regiment was always based in Darmstadt. In the American war of Independence and between the years 1776-1783 the Regiment was engaged in battles in: Flatbush, Incleberg (near New York), White Plains, Woodbridge, Brandywine river, French Creek, attack on Fort Reedback, the siege of Charlestown, battle of Stillwater, the surrender of Saratoga and also in diverse Canadian skirmishes.
