History:
In July 1763 500 British soldiers among them the 42nd Highlanders,60th Royal American and the 77th Highlanders advanced from Carlisle in Pennsylvania to Fort Pitt in an attempt to rescue the besieged troops manning the fort. Indian scouts were watching the oncoming British force and news of their arrival was passed on to the Indians besieging fort Pitt. On the 5th of August a trap was set by the Indians for the oncoming British force about one mile east of Bushy Run. The British troops were able to sustain the attack by the Indians until after nightfall. The Indians were trapped themselves and fled in panic after a frontal assault by the British troops who thereupon carried on their march to relieve Fort Pitt.
